Curbstone Deployment Method
The curbstone deployment method is used in situations with heavy traffic or limited time. It requires the assigned personnel to be in a visible position.
Step 1: Remove the unit from the bag and position yourself at a distance that allows for a clearer view of the approaching chase.
Step 2: When you spot the suspect vehicle, hold the unit on the curb at ankle height. Swing the unit towards the road and deploy it.
Step 3: Determine the escape route. Place the Rope Retraction Device on the ground, allow the rope to slip from the device, then hold the device tightly.
Step 4: After the suspect vehicle passes over the road barrier, pull the device away from the road barrier.
Pulling Deployment Method
If time permits, the road barrier is placed in the middle of a road with traffic (between two lanes). The rope is laid on the ground and securely hidden at the roadside. When the fleeing vehicle approaches the road barrier, the rope attached to the device is pulled to deploy it. This method requires personnel to cross the road across traffic lanes amidst flowing traffic. Therefore, safety precautions must not be neglected.
Step 1: Place the unit on the ground so that the rope is laid out on the road.
Step 2: Hold the rope with one hand, place the reel on the ground, and walk across the road. Allow the rope to slip from your hand as it unwinds from the reel.
Step 3: Keep the rope taut and place the roadblock, closed, onto the asphalt. Position yourself at a distance that allows you to see the chase and the roadblock more clearly.
Step 4: If there are no other vehicles around and before the suspect vehicle approaches, pull the roadblock across the road without any slack in the rope. Then hold the device tightly.
Step 5: Instruct the Lead Tracking Unit to stay at a sufficient distance behind to allow time for the personnel who will place the roadblock to deploy and pull the system. After the suspect vehicle passes over it, pull the trap away from the road by the handle.
